Substitute Simone Pepe left it late to fire Chievo to a 1-0 victory over Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

Roberto Donadoni's improving Rossoblu might have set a course for their fourth win in five Serie A games had Mattia Destro not missed a 36th-minute penalty.

Instead it was Chievo who grabbed the only goal and with it all three points as former Juventus winger Pepe emerged from the bench to steer home a daisy-cutter with 11 minutes remaining.

Chievo reach the halfway stage of the season in the top half of the table while Bologna remain comfortable in 15th.
