Official: Tottenham confirm loan move for Kenny McEvoy

Tottenham Hotspur winger Kenny McEvoy has made his loan move to York City permanent today, ending a five-year spell with the club, as per Spurs’ official website.

The 21-year-old Irishman joined the Spurs academy in 2011 but he was unable to make the step up into the first team, failing to feature once for any of the club’s recent managers.

McEvoy, a Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, spent spells on loan with Peterborough United and Colchester United last season as well as Stevenage and York City this term.

He linked up with the Minstermen in November and clearly did enough in his four League Two appearances to convince their manager, Jackie McNamara, that he was deserving of a contract until the end of the season.

The Waterford-born forward posted this message on Twitter shortly after his release from Spurs.

McEvoy had been tipped for a bright future at Spurs. However, he will now look to get his career back on track in England’s fourth-tier.

Despite McEvoy failing to make the grade at Spurs, their current head coach Mauricio Pochettino has been widely praised for handing the club’s youngsters a chance in the first-team, including Harry Kane, Ryan Mason and, most recently, Josh Onomah.

Kane, in particular, has really excelled under Pochettino’s management, scoring 32 Premier League goals for Spurs since the start of the 2014/15 season.
