Bruno Soriano struck an injury-time penalty as Villarreal claimed a last-gasp 2-1 win at Deportivo La Coruna in the Primera Division.

The midfielder tucked home his second of the game in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Fernando Navarro fouled Samu.

Bruno had earlier given Villarreal a 36th-minute lead but that was cancelled out by Luis Alberto three minutes into the second half.

The first 45 minutes were a scrappy affair with the first attempt on goal not coming until Villarreal's Jonathan dos Santos fired over after 19 minutes.

Deportivo had a couple of opportunities in quick succession as Alberto tested Alphonse Areola and Fede Cartabia missed the target.

After a succession of fouls, Villarreal took the lead as Bruno fired home from Mario Gaspar's corner.

Their advantage did not last as Lucas Perez teed up Alberto for the equaliser after 48 minutes. Perez might have had another himself a moment later but he shot wide.

At the other end Bruno went close but Alberto sent another shot wide and Juanfran had an effort blocked for Deportivo. Alejandro Arribas also forced Areola to save with a header.

Cartabia threatened again as the hosts continued to push and Oriol Riera headed over before Areola denied Lucas Perez in the last minute.

The game seemed to be heading towards a draw but one final Villarreal attack saw Samu draw the foul and Bruno snatched victory from the spot.
