Exeter City 1 - 2 Dagenham and Redbridge: Dagenham looking up after win
Posted Sunday, January 03, 2016 by PA
Dagenham moved out of the relegation zone in Sky Bet League Two with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Exeter.
The St James' Park pitch passed a pre-match inspection after heavy overnight rain, but it was soon cutting up as the rain began to fall. And it took Dagenham just 11 minutes to break the deadlock.
Joss Labadie rose above a static Exeter defence to head past goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik, who made it clear that he felt he was fouled to the referee.
Labadie had another effort saved by Olejnik shortly afterwards, before he sent a second header narrowly past the post from another corner.
Exeter levelled things up in the 43rd minute, though, when a corner from Lee Holmes caused panic in the Dagenham box and Tom Nichols turned the ball in from close range.
However, Exeter's inability to defend crosses cost them once again after 74 minutes when Ashley Hemmings crossed and Ashley Chambers rose to head past Olejnik.
Lee Holmes saw a free-kick headed off the line in stoppage time, but the defeat was Exeter's fourth in a row ahead of Friday's FA Cup clash with Liverpool.
