Fleetwood Town 2 - 0 Bury: Cod Army battle to secure victory over Bury

Posted Sunday, January 03, 2016 by PA

Fleetwood proved their survival battle is far from over with a 2-0 victory over Bury

Both sides had chances to break the deadlock in a lively first half, skipper Nathan Pond hitting the bar for the hosts and on-loan Stoke defender Dionotan Teixeira seeing his close-range effort blocked by Nathan Cameron.

Bury carved out chances of their own, Leon Clarke firing wide after Craig Jones danced past Amari'i Bell.

The hosts found better luck in front of goal after the break.

Antoni Sarcevic was the provider when Ash Hunter skipped in behind the Shakers defence and slotted low past Daniel Bachmann.

Bury brought on Chris Eagles and Danny Rose in the search for an equaliser but it was Fleetwood who struck again.

They had already gone close, Jamie Proctor wasting a one-on-one chance after a clever pass from Hunter.

Sarcevic was once more the provider when they did double their advantage , his fizzing cross from the left taking the finest of touches off Bobby Grant and bouncing past Bachmann.

Substitute Tyler Forbes nearly added a late third, his shot tipped clear by Bachmann as Steven Pressley's side closed out the win and a first Sky Bet League One double of the campaign.
