Dumbarton vs Glasgow Rangers - Dumbarton hoping captain Darren Barr recovers to face Rangers

Dumbarton are hoping that captain Darren Barr can recover from a knock and be ready to face Ladbrokes Championship leaders Rangers.

If Barr is fit then manager Stephen Aitken will have a full squad available for a game he accepts will be tough.

Aitken explained: "Rangers were very impressive when they beat Hibs on Monday and they will be huge favourites to beat us.

"We have done well in our matches against them this season for long periods. However, we were punished the first time we made a mistake in both of them. We need an error-free performance to do anything in this game."

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday is free to face Dumbarton after the club appealed his dismissal against Hibernian.

Halliday was sent off after a confrontation with Hibernian midfielder Fraser Fyvie who has accepted a Scottish Football Association charge of simulation and has since been banned. Halliday's appeal will be heard on January 7.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton will look to the versatility of Dean Shiels, Jordan Thompson and Dominic Bull if he needs to make changes but revealed Cammy Bell and Daniel Templeton are not ready to return from injury.

Doncaster winger Harry Forrester is set to join the Gers but the Dumbarton game may be too soon.
