Wycombe Wanderers 2 - 0 Crawley Town: Chairboys too good for Crawley

Posted Tuesday, December 29, 2015 by PA

Wycombe boosted their promotion hopes with a 2-0 victory over an unconvincing Crawley side.

Max Kretzschmar sneaked in to put Wycombe ahead in the sixth minute after Crawley captain Sonny Bradley failed to deal with a long ball.

Kretzschmar kept his cool when one-on-one with goalkeeper Callum Preston to stroke the ball into the back of the net.

The Crawley defence looked shaky all day, and after Preston went AWOL in the box, Sam Wood was unlucky to see his poke cleared off the line by Jon Ashton.

Crawley started the second half like a different team but failed to convert a number of chances to get back into the game.

Gwion Edwards' powerful shot was deflected wide and former Tottenham striker Lee Barnard missed the target from the resulting corner.

But it was Wycombe who sealed it just as six minutes of stoppage time were announced.

Garry Thompson crossed to the far post after neat build-up play, leaving man-of-the-match Wood unmarked to seal the win.
