Newport County 1 - 2 Plymouth Argyle: Newport bear the Brunt of Pilgrims' progress

Jake Brunt struck Plymouth's winning goal for the second time in three days to clinch a 2-1 win at Newport.

Sky Bet League Two leaders Plymouth had to come from behind at Rodney Parade after Scott Boden scored an early goal.

But Jake Jervis and Brunt replied in the second half to clinch the Pilgrims' third successive win.

County had managed just one win in their previous nine games but just two touches from goalkeeper Joe Day were enough to open the scoring in the 24th minute.

Day's free-kick was headed by Lenell John-Lewis into the path of Boden, who lobbed Luke McCormack for his eighth goal of the season and third in five games.

Day then tipped Brunt's header onto the crossbar but could do little to stop Jervis scoring from close range less than three minutes into the second half.

Oscar Threlkeld made amends for his booking with the cross for Jarvis to head home his 11th of the season.

Josh Simpson went close before Brunt made his third chance count when he turned and fired home on 70 minutes.
