Cambridge United 2 - 1 Barnet: Quickfire double earns Cambridge victory

Posted Tuesday, December 29, 2015 by PA

Cambridge scored twice in a minute to beat Barnet 2-1 and extend their unbeaten run to six league games.

The visitors had taken the lead on the hour when Conor Newton's error allowed Gavin Hoyte to play a pass through to John Akinde, who ran through on goal and slid the ball beyond goalkeeper Sam Beasant.

Akinde then squandered a great opportunity to double the lead, running through again and lobbing the ball beyond Beasant but fractionally wide of the post.

The U's equalised 19 minutes from the end when Harrison Dunk's cross from the left was nodded in by Luke Berry, arriving to the ball before Ian Lawlor.

They then led almost immediately when a ball from the left ran to Barry Corr and he drilled a fine finish across Lawlor and into the far corner.

Both sides had hit the crossbar in the first half, with Leon Legge's header for Cambridge being deflected onto the woodwork by Andy Yiadom and Aaron Mclean doing likewise for Barnet with a powerful effort from distance.
