Alfie Mawson set to return as Barnsley face Blackpool

Barnsley captain Alfie Mawson is set to return for the Sky Bet League One clash with Blackpool on Monday.

Manager Lee Johnson felt the young defender needed a rest so left him on the bench against Wigan last time out as Kevin Long returned from suspension to partner Lewin Nyatanga.

Long recently extended his loan deal from Burnley but Ivan Toney has returned to parent club Newcastle.

Lloyd Isgrove and Ryan Williams are vying to replace Toney as Barnsley return to action follow the postponement of their Boxing Day trip to Bury.

Blackpool were also without a game on Saturday after their home clash with Oldham was called off.

The extra two days may mean they can welcome back striker Martin Paterson, who was a major doubt for the Oldham match with a calf strain.

Colin Doyle (ankle), Henry Cameron (knee), Lloyd Jones (ankle) and Jack Redshaw (shin splints) all remain sidelined.

Blackpool will look to make it four victories in a row after wins over Peterborough, Wigan and Fleetwood.
