Plymouth Argyle vs Yeovil Town - Deane Smalley pushing for more minutes as Plymouth host Yeovil

Deane Smalley is likely to start on the bench on Boxing Day as he continues his comeback for table-topping Plymouth's League Two clash with lowly Yeovil.

The 27-year-old former Oldham and Oxford striker had been sidelined for over 12 months before he came on as a late substitute during last Saturday's 2-1 victory over Hartlepool, while Luke McCormick (groin and finger) should keep his position between the posts after returning in that win.

Manager Derek Adams believes taking small steps is key to Smalley's return as he told his club's official website: "I thought it was the right opportunity to put him on at the end of the game.

"It was good for him to get back on to the field of play and gives him the confidence now to try to push forward. He still needs a wee bit more game-time, but he's performed well in training and he got that opportunity."

Yeovil will have on-loan Swansea defender Connor Roberts involved once more as he has extended his stay at Huish Park by a further month.

The Glovers are struggling at the bottom of the table and have not won in the league since September.

Interim boss Darren Way, who may make changes ahead of two games in three days, told YTTV: "They've all been tough opponents but now there is a belief in the squad that we can win. It's been a difficult run-in but I think there have been large steps of moving it forward.

"They're (Plymouth) good on the counter attack. They've got good players, creative. They can score goal and they're solid. But I've also identified their weaknesses. We'll be going there looking to win the game."
