Luton Town vs Wycombe Wanderers - Jake Howells to remain in defence for Luton in clash with Wycombe

Jake Howells is set to continue in defence for Luton in the Sky Bet League Two clash with Wycombe after being brought back in from the cold.

The 24-year-old was told he had no future at the club under former boss John Still, who left last week, after handing in a transfer request in the summer.

He has been brought back by caretaker boss Andy Awford and is likely to feature again against the Chairboys.

Scott Cuthbert has suffered no reaction to his return against Exeter following a hamstring injury and Nathan Doyle and Luke Guttridge are doubts.

Wycombe midfielder Jason McCarthy will be hoping for more of the same after netting the second goal of his career in last weekend's 2-1 victory over Oxford.

The 20-year-old Southampton loanee was on target with the Chairboys' winner which saw them move just two points outside the play-offs ahead of the trip to Kenilworth Road.

Gareth Ainsworth's men head into the match on the back of just one defeat in their last 10 games in all competitions and he believes the momentum will help carry them towards more wins.

He said: "We've got a big game at Luton on Boxing Day and there's no reason this team can't go from the Oxford game and use it as a springboard and carry it on until we play Villa (in the FA Cup)."
