York City 2 - 1 Morecambe: York climb out of drop zone as Jackie McNamara secures first win as manager

York ended a run of nine straight defeats with a 2-1 triumph over Morecambe and climbed out of the Sky Bet League 2 drop zone.
Dave Winfield and James Berrett put the Minstermen in the ascendancy at Bootham Crescent and Jackie McNamara's men held on for the points despite Jamie Devitt's 54th-minute reply.
York survived a first-half scare when Danny Galbraith's stray pass released Aaron Wildig clear on Scott Flinders' goal.
But, after Wildig had rounded the York keeper, his shot was kicked off the line by Winfield.
The York defender then gave his side a 38th-minute lead with a powerful far-post header following Berrett's left-wing cross.
York doubled their lead on 52 minutes when Berrett fired low to Barry Roche's left from the edge of the box but Devitt replied soon after from eight yards.
The visitors almost snatched a stoppage-time equaliser when Wildig's shot deflected inches wide of an unguarded goal but McNamara, appointed in early November, celebrated his first win as York manager.
