Barnet 4 - 2 Crawley Town: Barnet survive Crawley comeback

Posted Sunday, December 20, 2015 by PA

Barnet tasted victory for the first time in seven matches as they survived a two-goal comeback from Crawley to win 4-2.

Crawley captain Sonny Bradley almost broke the deadlock when his powerful header was tipped over by Bees goalkeeper Ian Lawlor following Simon Walton's ball into the box.

French defender Bira Dembele then put the hosts in front, emphatically heading past Darryl Flahavan after meeting Luke Gambin's right-wing corner at the near post in the second minute of first-half added-on time.

The pair combined again to good effect seven minutes after the restart as Dembele rose to glance Gambin's searching free-kick into the bottom left corner and claim his second of the afternoon.

Crawley halved the deficit in fortuitous fashion when Mitch Hancox's over-hit cross deceived Lawlor and went in off the right post in the 76th minute.

Town midfielder Jimmy Smith then produced a thunderous volley from distance to draw the visitors level three minutes later but parity did not last long as Barnet regained control with two goals in quick succession.

Striker John Akinde restored the lead from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute after Josh Yorweth brought down Curtis Weston, before a calamitous own goal from Lewis Young put the result beyond doubt three minutes later.
