Shrewsbury Town 0 - 1 Swindon: Nicky Ajose's strike is enough for Swindon

Nicky Ajose's first-half goal sealed a fourth victory in a row for Swindon as they won 1-0 at Shrewsbury.

The Robins enjoyed a bright start, with midfielder Ben Gladwin testing goalkeeper Mark Halstead three times with shots from distance.

Anton Rodgers also fired a free-kick just over the crossbar as Martin Ling's side made most of the early running.

Swindon eventually made their pressure count in the 34th minute when Rodgers whipped in an inviting low cross from the right which was turned home at the far post by top scorer Ajose from close range.

Shrewsbury improved as the first half developed with Scott Vernon forcing a save from goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux and then left back Junior Brown bent a shot just beyond the far post.

Swindon had to defend well for long stages of the second half and limited Shrewsbury to few genuine scoring opportunities.

Brown's near-post shot was stopped by Vigouroux and Sullay Kaikai headed Liam McAlinden's cross over the bar as Micky Mellon's men, who sit just outside the League One relegation zone, drew a blank in front of goal.

Gladwin almost added a late second for Swindon but his well-struck effort was impressively blocked by home defender Nat Knight-Percival.
