Rochdale 3 - 1 Colchester United: Rochdale battle back to extend Colchester misery
Posted Sunday, December 20, 2015 by PA
Rochdale came from a goal behind to beat struggling Colchester 3-1 at Spotland.
Colchester went into the match on the back of six straight League One defeats but gave themselves hope of ending their torrid run when they took the lead in the 21st minute. Dale goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira kept out George Moncur's effort but the ball ran kindly for U's skipper Chris Porter, who volleyed into the unguarded goal from the edge of the area.
Nine minutes later Porter conceded a penalty which led to Rochdale levelling the game as Ian Henderson converted the spot-kick after Porter was penalised for a foul on Peter Vincenti.
Rochdale edged ahead in the 33rd minute when Callum Camps teed up Donal McDermott and the Ulsterman drove a confident finish beneath Colchester keeper Jamie Jones.
The home side made the game safe with a third in the 64th minute. Andy Cannon's free-kick from the right was flicked goalward by Calvin Andrew and Olly Lancashire prodded it over the line from close range.
