Manchester United turn to Wayne Rooney in bid to save their season
LEADING LIGHT: Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney

Rooney has missed United’s last three games with an ankle injury he suffered against Premier League leaders Leicester last month.

But he is back in full training and looks to be winning his battle to return for tomorrow’s crucial Old Trafford showdown with struggling Norwich.

Rooney missed a 0-0 draw with West Ham and defeats to Wolfsburg and Bournemouth which have piled the pressure on boss Louis van Gaal.

The striker hasn’t been at his best this term with just two goals in the Premier League.

But he is still United’s top scorer with seven goals in all competitions.

And a return to fitness and form from his captain is just what van Gaal needs.

Midfielder Ander Herrera could also return after missing five games with a hamstring injury as United’s injury crisis looks like clearing.

Defenders Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian are close to comebacks and Phil Jones and Morgan Schneiderlin are ready to start.
