The FA's chief executive revealed that he's hoping Hodgson will lead England into the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

And Glenn admitted that Neville's chances of succeeding him "haven't been harmed" by his move into management in Spain with Valencia.

The FA chief stated: "Roy has got the full backing of the FA and I think he's going to continue in the role to the World Cup and I know he's motivated to do it.

"And I'm really pleased Gary has gone into management by taking the Valencia job and I know Roy is delighted about that, too, and thinks it will be brilliant experience.

"Obviously, there's a difference between being a passionate ideas man to putting your head on the block.

"But it doesn't harm his chances at all of being a potential future England manager, because it's real experience."

Glenn also stressed the importance of England performing better at next summer's European Championships.

In relation to Hodgson, 68, remaining as England manager after the Euros, Glenn said: "It's subject to a genuine story of progress and we can adapt if that doesn't work.

"But Roy expects us to do better and we want to see progress. We've got a young team and we are looking to go further in the tournament than we have done in the last two.

"We are serious about being in a position to win the World Cup in 2022 - and every tournament until then."

Glenn stressed that none of England's squad for France next summer would be going on end-of-season tours with their clubs.

And he also insisted that football "won't be cowed into submission by terror" in terms of security concerns after the recent attack on Paris.

"We'll take guidance from national authorities, but Paris is going on as normal," he said.

"As far as we are concerned, we don't want fortress Team England - we want normality.

"It would be a sign of victory to the terrorists if we surrendered our normal way of living," Glenn added.
