Marseille forward Michy Batshuayi is reportedly being courted by Tottenham
The Mail claims scouts from Spurs attended the French club's 1-0 win over Rennes last week, with Mauricio Pochettino looking to secure a back-up for Harry Kane.
Tottenham will supposedly test Marseille's resolve with an early bid for Batshuayi in January, but face competition from North London rivals Arsenal.
Batshuayi was signed by Marseille in the summer of 2014 by Marcelo Bielsa, a man who had a big influence on Pochettino's philosophy.
Since joining the south coast club, Batshuayi has scored 19 goals in 42 Ligue 1 appearances, and at the age of just 22, fits into Tottenham's young-focussed transfer policy.
Spurs are believed to still hold an interest in Saido Berahino, who was an unused substitute in their 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion last week.
With no other natural striker in the squad, winger Heung-Min Son played as a centre forward in Thursday's 4-1 win over Monaco.
