Petr Cech: Arsenal are

Petr Cech believes that Arsenal’s performance in difficult circumstances against Olmypiacos shows that they can cope with pressure, as per the club’s official website.

Arsenal travelled to Greece in the knowledge that they had to win by a scoreline other than 1-0 or 2-1 to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

They prevailed in emphatic fashion, with Olivier Giroud scoring a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory. Cech believes that the performance will give Arsene Wenger’s side confidence going into a crucial period of the season.

Cech said: "We are ready to play under pressure. This is something that is really nice to know because we are playing for the title and that will bring the pressure on.

"Then when you go further in the cup competitions the play-off rounds come up so you will definitely play under pressure.

"If you want to progress and go as far as possible then you have to keep winning games.

"It might be that it doesn’t go well for you in one of those games and you have to chase it, so it’s good to know that we’ve been in that situation before and we can actually do it, regardless of the circumstances."

Cech – who earns a reported £100,000-per-week (per the Mail) – will be hoping to achieve a personal landmark when Arsenal travel to face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

The goalkeeper requires just one more clean sheet to equal David James’ record for top flight shut-outs.

The 33-year-old has been impressive since joining Arsenal from rivals Chelsea and has kept six clean sheets in the Premier League this season.
