Manchester United centre-forward Wayne Rooney has admitted that when he met current teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, he was starstruck by the German, as per Sport Magazine.
The World Cup winning midfielder first met Rooney in the middle of a game and according to the England international, kicked him on the football pitch – a foul which in turn injured Rooney.
''Probably the first time I met Bastian [who is sitting nearby]. When he booted my ankle and injured me…”
Schweinsteiger spent 17-years at Bayern Munich before leaving the club to join Manchester United and linked up with Rooney and his teammates earlier this summer, leaving the Bavarian side a club legend.
Both have struggled for form in the Premier League this season, with Schweinsteiger finding the adaptation to English football difficult, while Rooney has scored just two goals domestically in the new campaign.
United have had a solid start to the 2015/16 campaign and sit second in the table, just one place behind top of the league Leicester City – whom they face at 17:30 BST, a game which could see Louis van Gaal’s men move to the summit of the table.
Rooney has been at United since 2004 and since joining the club has become the Premier League’s second top scorer of all time, bested only by Newcastle United’s Alan Shearer.
