Liverpool relief after scan allays Philippe Coutinho injury fears
Liverpool players gather round Philippe Coutinho during the 4-1 win against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Philippe Coutinho could be available for Liverpool’s game at home to Swansea City on Sunday despite suffering a hamstring problem during the 4-1 win over Manchester City.

The attacking midfielder limped away from the Etihad Stadium on Saturday in pain after a scoring performance in the defeat of Manuel Pellegrini’s team. Fears of a long-term lay-off appear to have been allayed following a scan on the injury on Monday.

Coutinho visited a specialist to assess the extent of the damage. He will continue to be monitored by Liverpool’s medical staff but the initial indications are encouraging, with the 23-year-old not ruled out for any length of time at present.
