Jose Mourinho mocks Graeme Le Saux for fearing terror attacks during his time at Chelsea

JOSE MOURINHO has taken a swipe at former Chelsea star Graeme Le Saux.

The Chelsea boss mocked Le Saux as he explained how none of his current squad refused to travel to Israel for tomorrow night's Champions League game against Maccabi Tel Aviv, despite current tension surrounding the threat of terrorist attacks.

Le Saux was one of six players - William Gallas, Marcel Desailly, Albert Ferrer, Emmanuel Pettit and Eidur Gudjohnsen - who a month after 9/11 in 2001 stayed at home rather than play against Hapoel Tel Aviv in the UEFA Cup.

Mourinho said: "I didn't have a single problem within the squad. I didn't have a Graeme Le Saux.

"I had everybody without fears, wanting to come. I had even a player whose wife is maybe going to have a baby tomorrow or the next day - but he's here, focusing on what he can do."

Former England defender Le Saux is now a member of the FA's Inclusion and Advisory Board and last month accused Mourinho of setting football back 30 years with his treatment of doctor Eva Carneiro, who left the club after a row last month.

Manager Claudio Ranieri was forced to play a weakened side, and Chelsea lost 2-0.

The recent terrorist attacks in Egypt, Paris and Mali have increased security concerns for Chelsea's visit to the Middle East.

But Mourinho said: "I didn't have a meeting to ask them about their feelings. I had a couple of individual talks.

"Obviously it's not the same to play in Israel as it is in Stoke or Newcastle. But I got from them a sense of responsibility. Of course everybody has come. Nobody has even tried not to come.

"We're here focusing on getting a result. We need that for our happiness, our pride, and the people who support us."

Chelsea, meanwhile, last night announced losses of £23.1m in the last financial year - after making a £18.4m profit in 2014.

The club also revealed that their turnover also fell from £319.8m in 2014, to £314.3m, largely as a result of Mourinho's team going out of the Champions League at the first knockout stage last season.
