Rennes failed to score a stoppage-time penalty as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Bordeaux at Stade de la Route-de-Lorient.
Philippe Montanier's side, without a home win since the end of August, went ahead through 18-year-old forward Ousmane Dembele on 31 minutes with his first Ligue 1 goal.
Bordeaux, who play Liverpool in the Europa League next week, were level four minutes before half-time when Enzo Crivelli tucked home a rebound from close range
Rennes took the lead on 75 minutes through a 20-yard curling effort from substitute Kamil Grosicki.
The advantage, though, lasted only three minutes Bordeaux equalised again when German Diego Contento slotted home.
Ivory Coast forward Giovanni Sio had a goal ruled out for offside before, deep into the eight minutes of stoppage-time, Rennes were awarded a penalty following handball by Bordeaux midfielder Clement Chantome.
Bordeaux defender Nicolas Pallois, who had gone off injured, was shown a red card in the aftermath for protesting from the bench.
However, goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso was Les Girondins hero as saved Sio's spot kick.
