Lazio substitute Antonio Candreva's second half penalty denied new Palermo coach Davide Ballardini victory on Sunday in Rome as the Serie A encounter ended 1-1.

Edoardo Goldaniga's bullet strike from 25 yards put Palermo ahead in the 21st minute, but Candreva pulled the hosts level in the 69th minute after Oscar Hiljemark brought down Lazio defender Senad Lulic in the area.

Candreva made no mistake and slotted the spot-kick past Palermo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino as Lazio earned a point for the first time in four games.

Palermo, who dismissed coach Giuseppe Iachini during the international break and appointed Ballardini as his replacement, dropped to 14th position.
