Liverpool battle Real Madrid to sign Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia

Liverpool are hoping to beat Real Madrid to the signing of Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia in the January transfer window, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Biglia has been in phenomenal form for the Biancocelesti in the current Serie A campaign, scoring three goals in seven appearances in the Italian top flight.

The 29-year-old joined Lazio from Anderlecht in 2013 and has since gone on to become a vital part of Stefano Pioli’s side.

Biglia’s form has attracted the interest of Real Madrid and Inter Milan but the aforementioned source says he is top of Jurgen Klopp’s wish list on Merseyside.

Gazzetta also claims that Biglia has had a €30m asking price set by his current club.

Klopp has only tasted defeat once in his first seven games in charge of Liverpool in all competitions.

The German has hardly spoken about making signings in January and former Reds defender Jamie Carragher believes he will avoid making wholesale changes when the transfer window opens in two months’ time, per the London Evening Standard.

Biglia has managed to force his way into the Argentina national squad on a regular basis in the last two years, as a result of his stock rising dramatically since his arrival in the Italian capital.

The midfielder held down a starting berth in the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil, but couldn’t help his nation avoid a 1-0 defeat to Germany at the Maracana Stadium.

At the tournament, he made an average of two defensive actions per game, whilst committing one defensive error.
