Port Vale 1 - 1 Maidenhead United: James Mulley nets last-gasp equaliser for Maidenhead to deny Port Vale

Substitute James Mulley struck a stoppage-time equaliser to earn National League South side Maidenhead United a deserved 1-1 FA Cup draw at Port Vale.

The Vale players were booed from the field after Mulley drove a low, right-foot shot from 12 yards just inside Jak Alnwick's right-hand post to secure a first-round replay with just seconds remaining.

Mulley, who replaced Harry Pritchard 14 minutes from time, made no mistake after Vale failed to clear their lines numerous times in a goalmouth scramble.

The visitors, three rungs lower on the league ladder, held their own for the opening 20 minutes before Vale stepped up a gear and began to take charge.

Louis Dodds and Colin Daniel had shots well saved by Carl Pentney before Byron Moore opened the scoring in the 31st minute.

Dodds split the Maidenhead defence with a perfect pass and Moore sprinted clear to place a low, right-foot shot underneath the dive of the onrushing Pentney from 12 yards.

The visitors regained their composure and should have equalised in the 45th minute.

Ryan Upward's header came back off a post and Ben Wright blazed wide from the rebound when it looked easier to score.

Pritchard fired narrowly over for Maidenhead early in the second half, but Vale threatened to add to their tally as Sam Foley struck the crossbar and Dodds failed to convert a close-range header.

The visitors piled on the pressure in the closing stages, however, and Mulley's strike sent the 379 travelling fans into delirium.
