Dover Athletic 1 - 2 Stourbridge: Dover pay the penalty as Karl Hawley helps Stourbridge progress

Posted Sunday, November 08, 2015 by PA

Stourbridge dumped 10-man Dover out off the FA Cup at the Crabble with a Karl Hawley penalty securing a 2-1 win for the Northern Premier League outfit.

The part-timers were deserved winners as an out-of-sorts Dover struggled to come to terms with the challenge.

The Glassboys stormed into an early lead when Chris Lait fired a low effort inside the far post after great work on the left flank from Brian Smikle.

Aswad Thomas levelled the scores after 35 minutes when he lashed home after a spot of penalty area pinball but Dover wasted chances to take the lead.

Ricky Miller and Anthony Modeste missed openings to put the Whites in front before Dover were punished in the 68th minute.

Dover goalkeeper Mitch Walker was sent off after he brought down Hawley, giving away a penalty kick. The veteran forward then sent substitute stopper Andy Rafferty the wrong way from the spot.

Despite some late pressure from Dover, a resilient Stourbridge held firm to book a deserved second-round appearance.
