VfB Stuttgart 2 - 0 Darmstadt: Stuttgart move out of danger zone after Darmstadt defeat

Posted Monday, November 02, 2015 by PA

Stuttgart lifted themselves out of the Bundesliga relegation zone on Sunday with a 2-0 win over promoted Darmstadt at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

After a cagey first half full of interruptions, the Swabians took the lead just a minute after Timo Werner rattled the crossbar with a header.

Christian Gentner sent in a cross which Gyorgy Garics, in attempting to clear the ball, sent into his own goal.

Darmstadt responded well, but squandered numerous chances to level, twice with Marcel Heller failing to beat Przemyslaw Tyton in one-on-one situations, and - after Sulu headed wide from a good position - Werner sealed Stuttgart's win from close range.

It was Darmstadt's first away defeat of the season that leaves them now just three points ahead of their hosts.
