Eibar 1 - 0 Rayo Vallecano: Diego Llorente own goal secures deserved win for Eibar

Eibar stay sixth in the Primera Division after an own goal by Diego Llorente gave them a 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano.

Although the goal that settled the game was a fortuitous one, the Basques were comfortably the better team over the 90 minutes in Ipurua, creating more chances and playing with more purpose than Paco Jemez's side, who remain 14th in the league table.

Rayo had only won one of their four away games heading into this fixture and almost fell behind after just two minutes when in-form Eibar striker Borja Baston found himself through on goal against Tono, but the Rayo goalkeeper stood his ground and made the save.

Rayo's defence was found wanting again later in the half, allowing Keko to race down the right wing unchallenged and cross towards Baston in the area, but Llorente got there first, sliding across the floor and inadvertently sending the ball into his own net.

Keko could have doubled the lead just a minute later, trying a chip after spotting Tono straying from his line, but his effort clipped the crossbar.

Eibar were also dominant after the break and should have wrapped up the points midway through the second half as Rayo were again caught napping, but Saul Berjon could only hit the post.

Fortunately for the Basques, the visitors posed little threat at the other end.
