Arsene Wenger plots emergency winger move to combat Arsenal's injury hell

Arsene Wenger is considering moving left-back Kieran Gibbs into an emergency winger position to solve Arsenal's injury nightmare.

Wenger confirmed yesterday that Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be out for several weeks following their injuries in Tuesday's Capital One Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Walcott's calf injury and Oxlade-Chamberlain's hamstring issue will keep them on the sidelines until at least the Gunners' trip to West Brom on November 21.

"They are out until after the international break," Wenger said.

"Nothing has changed since after the game. They are out but the scans are on Thursday - it's 48 hours afterwards. We hope they are light injuries."

INJURY PROBLEMS: Wenger is facing a crisis

PLAN: Wenger could use Gibbs as a winger

Arsenal take on Swansea, Bayern Munich and Tottenham in the coming weeks and could be left short of attacking options.

And The Mirror claim that Wenger could turn to defender Gibbs to fill the void left by the crocked England duo.

Wenger also has out-of-favour Joel Campbell and youngster Alex Iwobi as other options.

CROCKED: Walcott is out for several weeks

MISERY: Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss the next few Arsenal games

The French boss added: "[Joel] Campbell and Alex Iwobi [are options]. Santi [Cazorla] can play there as well but he has become very important centrally."

"The problem sometimes is that you can destroy two departments if you move one player out."

"We control the ball better with Santi in the middle."
