PILING ON PRESSURE: Guus Hiddink

GUUS HIDDINK has turned up the heat on Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who is sweating on Diego Costa's fitness against Liverpool.

Defeat to the Reds this weekend could spell the end for the Special One, with Hiddink the current favourite to come in as caretaker.

And the Dutchman, who won the FA Cup in a similar role at Chelsea in 2009, effectively threw his hat into the ring yesterday.

Hiddink, who is out of work after being sacked by Holland in June, said: "Top class football is always attractive.

"I've had some offers come my way recently, but there were no jobs I wanted to get in to right away. We'll see, we just have to wait now."

Former Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is also interested in a return to Stamford Bridge but not in a short-term role.

That would appear to rule him out, with Chelsea keen to go for a bigger name at the end of the season.

Saturday's game is potentially make or break for Mourinho, but he may yet have Costa to turn to despite initial fears he had cracked a rib in Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup defeat at Stoke.

The Spain striker is understood to be confident of facing Liverpool and eager to play, with Chelsea hopeful he has suffered bruising rather than a fracture.

Mourinho also faces a touchline ban after being charged for his half-time rant at referee Jon Moss during the defeat to West Ham.

He has until 6pm today to respond to that charge, with the likelihood being that he will not learn his fate until next week.

Meanwhile, Chelsea striker Loic Remy has rubbished suggestions that Mourinho has lost the dressing room.

A growing number of Blues players are understood to have lost faith in their manager.

But Remy said: "It's important for him to stay and we don't want to give up. We were champions together only last season and he is a really great manager.

"Of course I don't want him to leave. I think all the players don't want that. We can still be in the top four if we win games."

But former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamman said: "I think he's got a mountain to climb to get back on track. I'm not sure there's a way back.

"I think he's fallen out with too many players and you've got to have these people on board. It was just a step too far.

"I've never seen it at any top club in the past. Are they going to go through a brick wall for him at the moment? I don't think so."
