Las Palmas 0 - 0 Villarreal: Villarreal held to goalless Primera Division draw at Las Palmas

Villarreal slipped further away from the top of the Primera Division standings after being held to a drab goalless draw at bottom side Las Palmas.

A difficult pitch at the Estadio Gran Canaria made for a tight game of very few clear chances, although if anyone edged the game, it was the hosts, who remain bottom of the league on points but move ahead of Levante and Granada on goal difference.

Villarreal meanwhile slip four points behind league leaders Real Madrid, a week after suffering their first defeat of the season, a 2-1 defeat to Celta Vigo.

The first chance of the game was created by Las Palmas, with local boy Jonathan Viera forcing Villarreal goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to tip his low shot around the post.

The visitors then fired their first warning shot, a header from captain Bruno Soriano from a corner which failed to hit the target.

Despite a promising start, these would be the only memorable moments of a forgettable first half, and things did not improve much after the break.

Areola made a comfortable save from Hernan's header from a corner and the only other moment of concern for the custodian came in injury time when he came out to punch a free-kick and collided with Aythami Artiles, who appealed for a penalty, but his cries fell on deaf ears.
