Sampdoria claimed their fourth Serie A victory of the season with a comfortable 4-1 win over struggling Verona.

Colombian striker Luis Muriel opening the scoring after 11 minutes with a neat finish from inside the box, before Ervin Zukanovic doubled the lead just before the half-hour mark with a powerful header from Roberto Soriano's corner.

The game was effectively ended as a contest on the stroke of half-time when Soriano went from provider to finisher with a well-placed right-foot shot, giving the Verona goalkeeper no chance.

Sampdoria's fourth came on 54 minutes from a header by Brazil-born Italy forward Eder, before Verona claimed a consolation goal with 15 minutes left courtesy of Moldovan winger Artur Ionita.

Sampdoria move up one place to ninth with this victory, while Verona remain second bottom.
