Man Utd round-up: Hummels linked with Old Trafford move, Young ruled out of derby

Manchester United are likely to face one of their toughest tests of the season on Sunday when they meet local rivals Manchester City in one of the most highly anticipated games of the campaign.

The Citizens are flying high at the top of the table, but their last visit to Old Trafford ended in a humiliating 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Red Devils. If that result were to repeat itself, Louis van Gaal would probably be delighted but his side are likely to be tired after playing CSKA Moscow away on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

United have made an inconsistent start to the season and have already lost to the likes of Swansea and Arsenal respectively, but they have recorded emphatic victories over Everton, Liverpool and Southampton since the start of the new campaign and the addition of Anthony Martial has transformed their attack.

All eyes will be on the Theatre of Dreams tomorrow afternoon but before that; here are the latest transfer and injury related news circulating at the club today.

Following their trip to Russia, Van Gaal has declared that he and the club have done everything to make sure that the players are prepared and recovered for the clash with City and that there was no intense training as to avoid injuries.

Boss on #mufc's preparation: "We've done everything to help the recovery of the players. We didn't train too hard today, to avoid injuries."

Man Utd are hoping that they can once again tempt Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels to join the club after it was revealed that the BVB are trying to negotiate a new deal with the 6ft3 player whose contract expires in 2017. Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also linked with the star. (Fichajes)

Van Gaal has confirmed that Ashley Young will miss the Manchester Derby as he hasn’t fully recovered from his knock. The winger has missed United’s last two matches due to the knock he picked up in the 3-0 loss to Arsenal. (Man United’s fficial website)

Saido Mane, who was heavily linked with a move to United over the summer, has seen Southampton double his asking price. The Senegalese international has had a good start to the season and United were thought to be prepared to pay £20 million for him during the summer, but that could now be £40m. (Telegraph)

United are said to be one of many clubs interested in Dinamo Zagreb attacker Marko Pjaca but Inter Milan are thought to be leading the way. The 20-year-old has already won six international caps for Croatia and his performances are starting to turn heads across Europe. (Metro)
