Burton Albion FC 2 - 0 Port Vale: Burton leave it late to overcome Port Vale
Posted Sunday, October 25, 2015 by PA
Late goals from Tom Naylor and Nasser El Khayati gave Burton a 2-0 win over Port Vale in a feisty Staffordshire derby which ended with both teams down to 10 men.
Vale striker Uche Ikpeazu, booked for a 19th minute foul on Robbie Weir, saw red for a dive in the Burton penalty area seven minutes later.
Midfielder Weir was handed a straight red for a reckless challenge on midfielder Sam Foley 10 minutes from time.
Burton had controlled the game from the time of Ikpeazu's dismissal but it took them until five minutes from the end to break the deadlock.
Vale had gone close to taking the lead after just five minutes, central defender Ryan McGivern heading just wide.
But they had to fight an uphill battle for the final hour of the game as the Brewers mounted attack after attack.
Naylor finally made the breakthrough with a close-range effort.
Then in the last minute winger El Khayati raced clear to ensure a first victory in four outings for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's team.
