Gareth Bale will miss Real Madrid’s Champions League match with PSG after suffering a recurrence of a calf injury.

The Madrid forward was withdrawn at half-time by manager Rafa Benitez during Saturday's 3-0 La Liga victory over Levante at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bale sustained a calf injury in the 4-0 Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk in September, but recovered in time to help Wales secure qualification to Euro 2016 in October.

Despite suffering the injury at the weekend, the 26-year-old had hoped to feature against PSG at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.

But having carried out a further assessment on the injury, Madrid have confirmed Bale is set for another spell on the sidelines and refused to put a timescale on a potential return.

"Following the tests carried out on Gareth Bale in the Sanitas la Moraleja University Hospital, the player has been diagnosed with a soleus muscle injury in his left leg. His recovery will continue to be assessed," a Madrid statement read.

News of Bale's latest injury will come as a blow to Benitez, who is already without a number of key players ahead of the trip to the French capital.

Luka Modric, Karim Benzema, Daniel Carvajal, Pepe and James Rodriguez are all currently on the sidelines for Madrid.
