Colchester United vs Port Vale - Colchester hopeful of Owen Garvan boost for Port Vale game

Colchester boss Tony Humes could have midfielder Owen Garvan available again as the U's host Port Vale in League One on Tuesday.

Garvan missed Saturday's 5-0 defeat at Wigan with a foot injury and is hopeful of making a return but the game is expected to come too soon for striker Gavin Massey, who has a calf problem.

Sam Walker (cruciate ligament), Alex Wynter (heel), Richard Brindley (bone bruising) and Kane Vincent-Young (Achilles) are all out.

Colchester won four matches in a row in September but have since slumped to three consecutive defeats.

Port Vale defender Richard Duffy misses the trip through suspension.

Duffy serves a one-match ban after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Peterborough on Saturday.

Midfielder Anthony Grant returns, however, having sat out against Posh as he was suspended.

But winger Byron Moore is a doubt after he suffered a groin strain in the 1-1 draw, so Chris Birchall is on standby.
