St Etienne bounced back from two straight Ligue 1 defeats with a routine 2-0 win against bottom-club Ajaccio.
Having failed to take any points from clashes with Caen and Nice, Robert Beric set about changing the record when he converted Valentin Eyserric's corner on 20 minutes.
But the hosts had to wait until the 70th minute to double their advantage when Kevin Monnet-Paquet sent an effort into the bottom corner after playing a neat one-two with Eyserric on the edge of the area.
Defeat for Ajaccio, their seventh in 10 Ligue 1 matches, leaves the winless Corsican side rooted to the foot of the table while St Etienne move up to third.
