Glasgow Rangers 2 - 1 Queen of South: Mark Warburton hails Rangers' composure after narrow win over Queen of the South

Rangers manager Mark Warburton hailed his players' patience and composure as they came from behind to snatch their 10th win of the Ladbrokes Championship win of the season thanks to Martyn Waghorn's last-minute header against Queen of the South.

Rangers fell behind for the first time in their league campaign when Derek Lyle netted from close range following a 35th-minute corner.

Jason Holt levelled with an angled finish after beating the offside trap in the 53rd minute but Rangers looked to have lost their perfect league record when Robbie Thomson parried Waghorn's 89th-minute penalty.

But Rangers worked the resulting short corner to Nathan Oduwa who crossed for Waghorn to guide home a header that earned the Gers a 2-1 triumph.

Warburton said: "We had a load of the ball in the first half and didn't really hurt them enough. Then after a good set-piece, good movement, we were 1-0 down at half-time.

"It was a good test for us, the first time we have gone behind in the league.

"So what are we going to do? Are we going to panic or are we going to be patient and do what we do best?

"I'm pleased to say the reaction was good. We got the goal and had four or five chances and to react in the way we did to missing the penalty by getting the goal was tremendous."

Rangers have had many more convincing triumphs this season but this narrow win was celebrated enthusiastically by 44,000 home fans at Ibrox.

"The opponents have good quality, organisation," Warburton said. "They are solid and compact, nine men behind the ball and hard to break down. So there are not going to be four or five every week.

"It's about us being patient. Whether you score in the first or the last minute, it's getting your rewards hopefully.

"Today was good commitment and good focus and we got the three points."

Queens boss James Fowler paid tribute to his young team after they adapted to the loss of half of his back four - Darren Brownlie and Lewis Kidd - in training on Friday.

"When Robbie saves the penalty you think it's going to be your day," Fowler said.

"Then to lose the goal so late is really frustrating for the players. For their hard work and some of their play, they deserved to get something out the game.

"We had a lot of youngsters playing. We had a few injuries yesterday in training which upset what we were going to do. The boys were different class, there were three teenagers in the team who haven't played many games."
