Wigan Athletic 5 - 0 Colchester United : Colchester waylaid by five-star Wigan

Four goals inside the opening 33 minutes put Wigan on track for an easy 5-0 Sky Bet League One victory over hapless Colchester.

The U's hardly got a kick from the first minute until the last as Wigan underlined their promotion credentials in crushing style.

Donervon Daniels got the scoring up and running with five minutes gone, slotting home from close range after good work from Yanic Wildshut.

Max Power doubled the lead on 11 minutes when his shot from 25 yards took a wicked deflection off a home defender and looped over the head of Jamie Jones.

Daniels added his second and Wigan's third goal two minutes with a left-footed shot that crept under the body of the Colchester goalkeeper.

And Will Grigg - back from international duty with Northern Ireland - smashed home goal number four with just over 30 minutes on the clock.

The second period was merely a procession with Wigan always in control and the visitors in damage-limitation mode.

On virtually their only excursion into Wigan territory, Marvin Sordell's low shot stung the hands of Jussi Jaaskelainen, who was otherwise a spectator.

Grigg rounded off the southerners' misery with a lovely goal three minutes from time when he lobbed into the roof of the net.
