Hamburg had Rene Adler to thank as they held Bayer Leverkusen to a goalless draw at the Volksparkstadion on Saturday.
The former Germany international, making his return between the posts after injury, kept Leverkusen at bay with a series of excellent saves as the northern Germany side picked up a precious point at home to the Werkself.
Javier Hernandez was denied more often than any other Leverkusen player, while Aaron Hunt wasted Hamburg's best chance just after half-time when Bernd Leno denied him in a one-on-one at the other end.
The draw sees Leverkusen lose further ground on the top three with Wolfsburg also moving ahead of them.
