Goalkeeper Marco Amelia is confident Chelsea will turn their lacklustre season around and could yet challenge for the Premier League title.

The former Italy and AC Milan goalkeeper joined Chelsea on a free transfer last week, as cover for Asmir Begovic, with first-choice Thibaut Courtois currently out injured.

Amelia agreed a contract until the end of the season and will be available for the Blues when they return to Premier League action against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Blues languish 16th in the league table and suffered their fourth league loss of the season against Southampton before the international break.

Regardless of the doom and gloom surrounding Stamford Bridge, Amelia is confident he can help Chelsea transform their circumstances.

He told ChelseaFC: "I hope to win. I want to win. I'm a winner. I've won at all the teams I've played at in my career."

"Now it is a strange situation for Chelsea in the season but I think we can do better and Chelsea, in January or February, will stay with the first team in the season."
