Gunners interested in Luis Henirque, Sanchez not 100% fit

Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Manchester United last weekend meant the Gunners’ fans went into the international break pretty happy.

With Arsene Wenger’s side second in the league, the Frenchman knows that with Chelsea’s poor start to the season he may never get a better chance to win a Premier League title, his first since 2004.

When you’re a club with the stature and the global recognition of Arsenal you’ll never be far from the newspapers or social media, so here’s a round-up of what’s making headlines in the world of the Gunners.

Arsenal want 17-year-old Brazilian striker Luis Henrique. The forward is currently plying his trade in the Brazilian Serie B with Botafogo and has netted four goals for this season. The South American has a buy-out clause of £10.5 million. (Goal)

Chile manager Jorge Sampaoli has admitted that Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez was not 100% fit, despite the forward playing the whole match in their 2-0 win over Brazil on Friday. The South American star has netted five goals this season for the Gunners but picked up a groin strain in the 3-0 win over Manchester United last week. The Club are therefore likely to be disappointed with the Chilean coaches after they used the 26-year-old for the full 90 minutes despite being aware of his injury. (London Evening Standard)

Olivier Giroud has admitted that he can understand why Theo Walcott is currently ahead of him in the pecking order at Arsenal. The France forward has netted three goals this season in the Premier League but has found himself on the bench more often than not, with the England man preferred up front. Arsenal’s only signing of the summer, Petr Cech, believes that his new side are more than capable of challenging for silverware this season after fighting back from their opening day defeat to West Ham. Poor judgement from the former Chelsea goalkeeper was a factor in the Hammers’ 2-0 win at the Emirates at the start of the season but since then the Gunners have lost just one other game in the division. And Cech, who has kept four clean-sheets, has said: “After the first defeat for us against West Ham, everyone said that we can never win anything big. Now we are again being compared to the most famous Arsenal, who didn’t lose during one season. I just know that we have a team that can fight for the title until the last round.” (iDNES via Goal)

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has suggested that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho should try and emulate Arsene Wenger’s philosophy if he wants to turn around the Blues’ current poor form. Chelsea currently occupy 16th in the Premier League with just two wins this season and the Saints boss believes that Mourinho is too defensive in his tactics, which is costing last season’s champions points.
