Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez will be keeping his fingers crossed that the hamstring injury suffered by Karim Benzema is not too serious.
Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez will be keeping his fingers crossed that the hamstring injury suffered by Karim Benzema is not too serious.
The 27-year-old striker broke a year-long goal drought for France when he scored a brace in the 4-0 win over Armenia in Nice on Thursday night, having also provided the assist for Antoine Griezmann's opener.
However, Benzema was forced off just moments after bagging his second goal, and he confirmed the injury after the match, which has cast doubt over his participation in the friendly international against Denmark on Sunday.
"I'm hurt," the Frenchman told Canal+. "We'll see what the tests say tomorrow but I'm hurt."
Les Bleus head coach Didier Deschamps played down the severity of the problem and does not believe Benzema will be sidelined for Los Blancos.
"He felt something for his second goal, during his feint and the shot," Deschamps said in his post-match press conference.
"It's a little muscular discomfort at the back of the hamstring. It doesn't seem to be very serious but there's something there."
