Hungary 2 - 1 Faroe Islands : Daniel Bode spares Hungary's blushes against Faroe Islands

Substitute Daniel Bode hit a quickfire double as Hungary came from behind to beat the Faroe Islands 2-1 and keep hopes of automatic Euro 2016 qualification alive.

Hungary were stunned as Roaldur Jakobsen gave the visitors an early lead in Budapest but they recovered after a laboured first-half display.

Bode changed the game with a superb header just after the hour and followed up with a fine finish on 71 minutes.

The closing stages were ill-tempered and the Faroes had captain Atli Gregersen sent off in injury time after clashing with one of the Hungary coaching staff.

Nemanja Nikolic volleyed an early chance wide for Hungary but the Faroes went ahead after 11 minutes as Jakobsen neatly turned Roland Juhasz and fired home.

It was not until first-half stoppage time that Gunnar Nielsen was tested but the Faroes keeper clutched Adam Bodi's shot at the second attempt.

The equaliser came in the 63rd minute as Bode, brought on at half-time, rose to head home Tamas Kadar's pinpoint cross.

Kaj Bartalsstovu threatened to put the Faroes back ahead but slipped after going through on goal and Hungary upped the tempo to take the lead as Bode beat two defenders and smashed in a shot.

The Faroes continued to make life difficult but could not find a way through.

The game ended scrappily as Gregersen was booked for bundling over one of the Hungarian technical team attempting to take a quick throw-in and he was shown a second yellow card following the resulting melee.
