Liverpool to hold talks with Jurgen Klopp by the end of the week

Liverpool will hold talks with Jurgen Klopp before the end of the week regarding the vacant managerial position at Anfield, according to Sky sources.

The Reds parted company with Brendan Rodgers on Sunday following a dismal run of just one win in nine games in all competitions, which culminated in an uninspiring 1-1 draw at Merseyside rivals Everton.

Klopp and former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti have been identified as potential replacements but it is believed the former is the club's preferred choice.

Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool's American-based owners, harbour ambitions of finalising negotiations so a new manager is in place by the end of the international break.

Klopp initially took a sabbatical after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, but it is understood he would be willing to cut short that hiatus for a role in the Premier League.

If appointed, the 47-year-old's first game in the Anfield hotseat would be at Tottenham on October 17.
