Could Sean Dyche replace Dick Advocaat
Speculation grew last night that the Dutchman was on his way out when he admitted he had made a decision on his future – but refused to divulge it.
Burnley boss Dyche impressed the Sunderland owner Ellis Short when it appeared that Advocaat was retiring last term after successfully maintaining the North East club's Premier League status.
Dyche was ready to be installed when a sudden change of mind by Advocaat left Dyche with no option to continue preparations to try and restore Burnley's lost Premier League status.
But Advocaat has since been involved in a battle with the Sunderland hierarchy over signings and is on the verge of returning to Holland.
Sunderland will immediately go back to Dyche but will also consider two out of work experienced bosses in Sam Allardyce and Harry Redknapp.
Allardyce, a former Sunderland player, could find any Wearside job offer tempting while Redknapp, who once turned down the Newcastle United job, admits he misses life in the Premier League.
