Newport vs Exeter - Newport boss John Sheridan preparing to lead Exiles against Exeter

Newport's new manager John Sheridan will take charge of his first game when Exeter visit Rodney Parade.

Former Exiles boss Terry Butcher departed on Thursday after one win in 10 league games left the club rooted to the foot of the Sky Bet League Two table.

Sheridan has no major new injury or suspension worries and could be boosted by the return to contention of defender Danny Holmes, who missed a home defeat to Crawley due to a knock.

Strikers Alex Rodman and Aaron Collins, plus midfielder Yan Klukowski - all on the bench in midweek - are among those pushing for recalls.

Paul Tisdale's side travel to Wales on the back of their first victory at Portsmouth in 92 years after they ran out 2-1 winners at Fratton Park on Tuesday night.

Midfielder Ryan Harley and defender Jamie McAllister should be in contention for the trip after two weeks on the sidelines, but a number of players will face late fitness tests ahead of the match.

Boss Tisdale said: "It's probably a bit too early to call who will be fit and available this weekend. I think there will be a last-minute assessment on Saturday morning as to who's involved and who's not.

"There are a number of players who are tired and sore from the exertions of Portsmouth on Tuesday.

"You put that all into the selection mix, and that hasn't yet been settled. It's the first time in a number of years that we've had a squad that can take this kind of schedule."
