Liverpool round-up: Reds ready to sign Valdes, Rodgers unhappy with Mignolet
Daniel Sturridge has a 100% shot accuracy in the league this season.

Liverpool’s season took a positive swing last week when they beat Aston Villa 3-2 at Anfield, but the jury is still out for Brendan Rodgers and the Northern Irishman’s job.

The Reds currently sit 9th on 11 points – five adrift of leaders Manchester United – and will have to face rivals Everton on Sunday.

However, before that they play host to Swiss outfit FC Sion in the Europa League in what will be a tough week for Rodgers and his men.

On that note, here’s all the latest team news and transfer rumours coming out of Merseyside on Tuesday, as Rodgers looks to gather a few more wins under his belt.

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has hailed Liverpool’s talismanic forward Daniel Sturridge for his composure in front of goal and believes his return will be good for the Reds and for England. The former Chelsea striker returned to the Reds’ starting XI against Norwich City recently, and now he looks fit and raring having netted twice at home to Aston Villa in their 3-2 win on Saturday. Sturridge has a 40% conversion rate in the league this season. (Telegraph)

James Milner has said that Liverpool shouldn’t be criticised for their early season form, especially as his former club Manchester City have lost more games than them in all competitions this term. Despite Liverpool’s indifferent form, the Reds have lost just two of their nine games across all competitions this season – less than Man City who have been beaten by West Ham, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur. Milner has created more chances (14) than any Liverpool player this season. (Daily Star)

Simon Mignolet has kept three clean sheets in the league this season.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is unhappy with goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and the transfer committee at the club are now eyeing up replacements for the Belgian. The 27-year-old has been under intense pressure ever since moving to Anfield two years ago and his performances over the last few weeks have prompted criticism, as Rodgers looks to bring in a January replacement. Mignolet has averaged one save per game in the league this season. (Daily Mail)

Liverpool are ready to sign Victor Valdes. The move would certainly come as a surprise, given he plays for Man United. However, the shot-stopper, who has won three Champions League titles, would be seen as good competition for Mignolet. (Calciomercato)

Last – but not least – John Aldridge believes Rodgers should stick with a front three of Philippe Coutinho, Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge for the Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunday. Ings has impressed since coming into the team, whilst Coutinho registered two assists and Sturridge scored twice against Villa last week. With Christian Benteke set to miss out, Aldridge believes the aforementioned triumvirate would be exciting to watch against Everton. Ings has an 80% shot accuracy in the league this season.
